Predator Prey Lab Report Essay - 2246 Words

PREDATOR-PREY RELATIONS LAB Background Research: Predators and prey are organisms that interrelate, and they can influence on another’s success in reproduction. Predators are organisms that consume other organisms-their prey. These two organisms evolve together. They live in an environment where they must develop certain adaptations to survive. When an adaptation is developed, it gives an organism certain physical characteristics that create an advantage for survival and can come to dominate in a population. An adaptation aids survival by either decreasing a preys chance of being eaten, or by increasing a predators chance of obtaining food to survive and reproduce. Predators must fight for food. They face density-independent†¦show more content†¦The predators may, however, dash in and pick up any prey being pursued by another predator. Do not hesitate to intrude, any hungry natural predator would not. Hunting time will be 5 minutes. When the teacher or the â€Å"wildfire† comes around and touches any of the students, they must step out of the playing area for fifteen seconds. When told to stop, each student will tally up his â€Å"kills†. If a predator is in the process of capturing a prey when told to stop, he must drop it. 6. Repeat this process for each generation and make the proper adjustments required for each. 7. At the end of the lab, share your data with the class and add up the number of prey killed. Observations: In certain parts of the field, the grass was very tall and the prey that were in that area were very difficult to find. Because of this many predators ignored the grassy areas which caused a lot of competition for prey in the other areas of the field. Certain prey such as the corn was easily concealed in the grass because of its small size. However, in the dirt area, the color of the corn really made it stand out. In the dirt area of the field, the pinto beans were concealed because its camouflage characteristics allowed it blended in with the dirt, but it stuck out in the grass. The black beans were small black so it was concealed it both the grass and the dirt. Personal Essay on Influences of Art Essay Example

Personal Essay on Influences of Art Essay When it came to showing my feelings and emotions through artistic expression, I was lacking immensely. In a sense, I was a very secretive and emotionless artist, whichmade it easy for me to draw, photograph, or write about a given topic that I didnt necessarily have feelings for, but at the same time I was acting as if I knew a lot about these things when I really knew little or nothing. I was given an assignment to photograph death and I had two weeks to do it.It seemed simple enough, I figured I would go to a cemetery and take a picture of Headstone of some child who died from a horrible drunk driving accident, or something of that sort.So I did and thought nothing of it. In the early morning of September 15, 2000 my cousin, who I was very close to had been found in an alley, raped and murdered. I was so angered when I found out, I couldnt stop myself from crying for days and to make things worse, the media slandered her name with ignorant lies, as if they were trying to justify her death. I fell against a wall and just sat there for a while thinking, but not about my cousin; I was thinking about how censored I was living my life, and how I never put effort into anything I did that had to do with what I considered my passion. I went back to the alley later that week to take pictures, and while I was looking through my camera at the alley, I began to truly understand and feel what I was doing, and why I was doing it.
